The world-renowned Chinese tile game Mahjong plays a central role in Chengdu social life, so much so that the city even hosted the World Championship in 2006 held by the World Mahjong Organization. In 2010, Chengdu became only the 2nd UNESCO City of Gastronomy, an honor given to cities that have preserved and cultivated their cuisine.
